The dispute between PCB and BCCI over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 continues. To address the issue, the ICC has suggested a hybrid model.
Reports indicate that PCB has set conditions to agree to this model. Pakistan demands written assurance from the ICC that all its matches in any ICC tournament held in India will take place at neutral venues. Additionally, PCB is asking for an increase in its revenue share.
Champions Trophy 2025 Dates to be Released Soon!
The 2025 Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place between February 19 and March 9. India's matches will almost certainly be held in Dubai with the India vs. Pakistan match most likely scheduled on March 1.
However, the official tournament schedule is not released yet as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) need to have the permission of their Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, before the ICC can formally publish the real schedule. According to IANS news agency, the long-awaited Champions Trophy 2025 schedule may finally be revealed on Wednesday.
Champions Trophy 2025 Schedule
The ICC had planned to announce the schedule for the Champions Trophy 2025 in November, but it has been delayed due to BCCI's refusal to play in Pakistan. The ICC is now under pressure to finalize the schedule soon.
According to Pakistani media, the disagreement between India and Pakistan over the venue and format of the Champions Trophy remains unresolved. Both the BCCI and PCB are expected to present their official positions at the meeting scheduled for December 5.
The BCCI has opposed Pakistan's conditions for ICC tournaments. If these demands are accepted, any final involving Pakistan in an ICC tournament held in India will take place outside the country.
Pakistan's Demands vs. BCCI's Stance:
Check the comparison below on the demands put forward by the PCB and the stance of BCCI on the whole matter:
PCB's Demands:
- Pakistan is asking for an additional $65 million.
- They want a hybrid model for all future ICC tournaments hosted in India.
- Dubai has been suggested as a neutral venue.
BCCI's Stance:
- The BCCI has firmly rejected these demands, especially the proposal to host future ICC tournaments at neutral venues.
What has Happened Till Now?
The PCB has been informed by the ICC that the hybrid model is the only practical way to host the next major tournament. According to sources, the PCB has been instructed to approve the request without placing any further restrictions.
The BCCI has not yet assured ICC and PCB that they are prepared to provide the Pakistani team with a hybrid model when ICC events are held in India. PCB is willing to accept the hybrid concept for the 2025 Champions Trophy, but only if the Pakistani squad is offered the same choice going forward. Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the PCB, told media in Lahore today that the ICC meeting will not take place until Pakistan receives firm guarantees.
