International Day of People with Disability was observed across the world on 3 December 2013.

International Day of People with Disability was observed across the world on 3 December 2013. This is the 21st anniversary of International Day of People with Disability.

The theme of the year is Break Barriers, Open Doors: for an inclusive society and development for all.

This day is observed annually to focus on the issues that affect people with disabilities worldwide.

On this day, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee presented the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The awards were instituted by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, are given to outstanding achievers among persons with disabilities, as well as to individuals and institutions which do outstanding work for the empowerment of such persons.

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is a United Nations sanctioned day that aims to promote an understanding of people with disability and encourage support for their dignity, rights and well-being.
