Mercedes Benz India on 10 October 2012 rolled out the first locally assembled SUV, the ML 250, from its Chakan plant near Pune.
The Mercedes Benz India at presently started with the production of ML 250 CDI while the production of the ML 350 CDI, as well as the GL-Class will going to be started in the next one year. The company is going to manufacture 100 vehicles per month from this facility
India is the only country outside of the USA where the German luxury car maker begun production out of the new ML-Class.
The new Mercedes ML 250 is built from CKD units and is currently localised to a degree of around 30%, with the power train and axles being sourced locally.
The company has priced this locally assembled SUV at Rs 46.5 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.
The benefit of local production is realized in the form of aggressive pricing, easier production availability and flexible production scheduling- each of these will benefit the discerning customers and ensure greater appeal of the M-Class in the high growth luxury SUV segment.
