Public Cause Research Foundation on 20 December 2010 announced the winners of the National RTI Awards 2010.

The Public Cause Research Foundation on 20 December 2010 announced the winners of the National RTI Awards 2010. The awards were decided upon by a jury consisting members like - Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, the former Chief Justice of India, J.S. Verma, journalist-editor Madhu Trehan and the former Chief Election Commissioner, J.M. Lyngdoh. Seven individuals from different fields were selected for the award.


Saikat Dutta of The Outlook magazine won the Best RTI Journalist Award for using the Right to Information Act to expose a Rs.2500-crore scam in the export of rice. Wife of killed Mumbai police officer Ashok Kamte, Mrs kamte was bestowed with the award. Mrs Kamte had used the Act to ferret out information and documents relating to the November 26, 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, in which her husband and two other police officers were killed. The other awardees are Manoj Kumar Karwarsa, Ramesh Kumar Verma, Athar Shamsi, Rajan Savlo Ghate and Pradeep Kumar. Pradeep Kumar who is a young Block Development Officer of Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh won the award in the PIO category.
