NGT suggested variable office hours to cut pollution

The idea was mooted by an NGT bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, who said that it needed to take everyone along and come up with an innovative approach to curb pollution.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on 14 July 2015 gave an idea of variable working hours for the government and private sector in the national capital, Delhi. The plan was mooted with an aim to reduce vehicular pollution in the capital during peak hours.

The idea was mooted by an NGT bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, who said that it needed to take everyone along and come up with an innovative approach to curb pollution. The bench asked the Union Government to discuss the proposal with all stakeholders.

How these variable working hours will be benefit the city?
• A gap of one or two hours in the office hours of government and business establishments in Delhi may help in reducing vehicular emissions, which is caused due to traffic problem
• It will also reduce the pressure on buses, autos and metro during peak hours

Besides, the bench also included universities in the proposal. It said that if a child can go to school at 7am, why can’t a graduate can do so?
