Nivea, the global skin care brand, on 23 June 2014 announced to set up its first manufacturing plant in India in Sanand, Gujarat.  The plant will be set up at an investment of 1000 crore rupees.

The plant which will be set up on an area of 72000 square feet will also house Nivea’s first ever Research & Development (R&D) unit in the SAARC region.

The plant would help the company develop products at lower prices and drive distribution deeper. Also it would reduce imports by half once the factory goes on stream.

The plant, once operational, will start making creams, lotions, bodywash, lipcare, men’s care products and deodorants. The plant is expected to be operational from 2015.

Nivea, which is owned by Hamburg-based German personal care major Beiersdorf, set up its Indian affiliate in 2005. Rakshit Hargave is the Managing Director of Nivea India.
