On April 27, 2011 Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) announced two new oil and gas discoveries in Gujarat. It struck oil and gas in a well drilled in block CB-ONN-2004/2. ONGC has declared that it has 50 per cent interest in the block that it had won along with the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (40 per cent) and Sunterra (10 per cent) in the seventh round of bidding under the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP). Its making two oil discoveries in Gujarat took the number of oil & gas strikes to 24 in the 2010-11.
Exploratory well Vadtal-3 produced oil at a rate of 22.5 cubic metre a day and gas at a rate of 3758 cubic metre a day on testing. The oil produced is of good quality with a gravity of 41.10 API. This is the second discovery in block CB-ONN-2001/1. ONGC has made an oil discovery in a nomination block Linch Extn-1 in the western offshore.
Development well North Kadi-461 in Linch Extn-I PML, Western Onshore Basin, was drilled to a depth of 1,600 metres. Oil flowed at a rate of 17 cubic metres a day during testing. ONGC produced 27.272 million tonnes of crude oil in 2010-11, marginally higher than the target of 27 million tonnes. Gas production at 25.322 billion cubic metres was also higher than the 25-bcm target. It sold 20.297 bcm of gas and produced 3.2 million tonnes of value added products in 2010-11.
