Rafael Nadal won his seventh Monte Carlo Masters by defeating fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 6-4, 7-5 on 17 April 2011. The victory got him his 44th career title.
His victory at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2010 had made him the first man in the professional era to triumph in the same tournament six times in a row. He had first won the title in 2003.
This was his first tournament victory since October, ending a run of three consecutive defeats in title matches.
Nadal has lost two consecutive Masters finals in 2011 to second-ranked Novak Djokovic, at the Sony Ericsson and BNP Paribas Open. He was also beaten by Roger Federer at the season-ending final of the ATP World Tour Finals in November 2010.
Sixth seeds Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam-ul Haq Qureshi of Pakistan was defeated by Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Chela and Brazil’s Bruno Soares 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-10 in the semifinals of the ATP Masters event in Monte Carlo.
