The Supreme Court of India in its order asked the Principal Health Secretaries of 23 states and five union territories that framed rules for enforcement of ban on gutka and tobacco-based pan masala products as well as plastic bags less than 40 microns thick to file compliance reports for the same within four weeks.
The Supreme Court Bench that comprised Justice GS Singhvi and and Justice Kurian Joseph expressed its concerns over the continuity of sale of tobacco-laced gutka and pan masala across the country even after the ban that was imposed by the central government on its sale.
