The Indian Cabinet under the chairmanship of PM Manmohan Singh met on 10 June 2010 and decided to hand over the security of the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial to CISF. The Rajiv Gandhi Memorial stands at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, the place where he was assassinated in 1991. The government has therefore accorded the same status to the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial as the samadhis of national leaders at Rajghat, Shanti Van, Vijay Ghat, Shakti Stal, Vir Bhumi, Ekta Sthal, Kisan Ghat, Samta Sthal and Sangharsh Sthal in Delhi. The government will have to bear an expenditure of Rs 7.06 crore for the security. The cost will be incurred on the residential accommodation of security men. Every year Rs 1.23 crore will be spent on the salary and allowances of the security personnel.
