The tiger Census 2010 was released on 28 March 2011 by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests. According to that Madhya Pradesh state registered a more than 15% decline in its tiger population with the number decreased to 257 in 2010 from 300 in 2006. A shrink in the size of tiger habitat area was also reported from the state.


With this development, Madhya Pradesh lost its tag of tiger state to Karnataka.  Karnataka has now more tigers than Madhya Pradesh.
