Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the current projected global GDP growth is of about 3.2 % and it is probably going to be even revised downwards. She further stated that the global demand has been weak and it is expected to reduce further due to the ongoing trade war between the US and China. The fluctuation in the Chinese currency also plays a huge role in it. However, she assured that the Indian economy is at a better position in comparison to others.

Triple Talaq: SC agrees to examine validity of new triple talaq law, issues notice to centre

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea by a Muslim body challenging the new triple talaq law. The Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind moved the apex court on August 23, 2019 questioning the validity of the new Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act of 2019, which makes the practice instant triple talaq a punishable offence.

INX Media Case: SC grants anticipatory bail to P Chidambaram in ED case, no relief in CBI case

The Supreme Court has granted anticipatory bail to P Chidambaram in the ED case till August 26, 2019.  P Chidambaram will, however, continue to remain in CBI custody as the top court did not give any relief in the CBI case. The apex court has listed both ED and CBI cases against P Chidambaram for hearing on Monday.
