India slipped to the 6th position globally in the business optimism index for the first quarter of this year, as per Grant Thornton's quarterly global business survey.

Alphabet Inc’s Google launched Android Things (codenamed Brillo), a variant of Android operating system for Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as smart home appliances and other smart machines.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) announced to expand Van Dhan Vikas Kendras in tribal districts across the country. About 3000 such kendras are proposed to be set up in two years in all forested Tribal Districts.

An official statement by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ministry read that the government has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 5.50 per quintal of cane crushed in sugar season 2017-18 to sugar mills to offset the cost of the cane.

The state government of Haryana has decided to start 31 government colleges for girls with effect from ensuing academic session 2018-19. Additional charges of these colleges have been given to principals of others colleges so that work would not be halted in these colleges.

In Malaysia, former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s alliance of opposition parties has secured a historic win in the nation’s general elections. Mahathir's coalition won 121 out of 222 seats, after the final results were announced, nine seats more than the required 112 to form the government. The 92-year-old will be the oldest Prime Minister in the world when he takes the power.

The Telangana government on May 10, 2018 launched a new scheme in which the farmers in the state will get Rs 8,000 per acre each every year as crop investment support. Launching the programme titled 'Rythu Bandhu', the state’s Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao claimed that Telangana is the first state in India to implement a farmer investment support scheme.

The Supreme Court of India has held that railways will be liable to pay compensation to passengers in case of death or injury while boarding and de-boarding trains.The court stated that death or injury while boarding or de-boarding a train is an untoward incident which entitles a passenger to compensation and will not be considered his negligence.
