1. (a) Sandeep Bakshi

Private sector lender ICICI Bank on October 16, 2018 announced that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the appointment of Sandeep Bakshi as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ICICI Bank for three years.

2. (b) China

China successfully launched twin BeiDou-3 navigation satellites into space on 15 October 2018 to strengthen its satellite navigation network. The satellites were launched from a Long March-3B carrier rocket.

3. (a) Priyank Kanoongo

Priyank Kanoongo was appointed as Chairperson of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for a period of 3 years. The post of chairperson fell vacant after Stuti Kacker’s tenure ended on September 16, 2018.

4. (b) 15th October

Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas is celebrated every year on 15 October to increase active participation of women in agriculture & allied sectors. Women farmers, entrepreneurs, farming organizations, agricultural scientists and researchers from different states participate in the event.

The SRiX Agri-Business Academy, which is an Indo-UK collaborative initiative, was launched at SR Innovation Exchange (SRiX) Campus in Warangal. SRiX is a technology business incubator under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

6. (d) Paul Allen

Paul Gardner Allen, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, an investor, entrepreneur and philanthropist, passed away on October 15, 2018. He was 65. He died in Seattle from complications related to Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, the less-common Hodgkin's disease, is a cancer of the lymphatic system.

The World Food Day was observed globally on October 16, 2018. The day is viewed as a day of action dedicated to tackling global hunger. The theme of World Food Day 2018 is ‘Our actions are our future – A zero hunger world by 2030 is possible’.

8. (c) Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has set up a committee to formulate a strategy to help its businesses invest more into the Indian market. The ‘Break into India Strategy Committee’ appointed by the Ministry of Development strategies and International trade will include members from several top firms as well as representatives from research institutions and consulting companies.

9. (a) Afghanistan

The United Nations has observed that at least three million Afghans are in urgent need of food and could face famine if they do not get help. The UN humanitarian coordinator in Afghanistan Toby Lanzer said in Kabul that a dry spell mainly across northern and western Afghanistan has devastated crops, livestock and water supplies, forcing hundreds of thousands of people from their homes.

10. (d) Delhi


The National Green Tribunal has fined the Delhi government Rs 50 crore for its "failure" to take action against steel pickling units in residential areas as they fall under the prohibited list of industrial activity. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel blamed the Delhi government for not closing the industrial units despite its specific directions.

11. (c) Fifth

In the latest ICC global women's T20I team rankings, launched on October 12, 2018, India has been placed fifth, while three-time champions Australia topped the 46-team table yet again. The ICC's move to launch the women's T20I rankings follows its decision earlier this year to award international status to all T20 matches between member countries.

12. (b) Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy has announced that sportspersons would be given three percent sub-quota in recruitments. He said that the sub quota will be extended for recruitments in government departments and public sector undertakings.
