Uttarkhand Government constituted committee on industries using silica dust

Uttarkhand Government constituted a committee headed by S Raju to conduct a detailed survey of the industries using silica dust in the state.

The state government of Uttarkhand on 8 August 2014 constituted a high-level committee to conduct a detailed survey of the industries using silica dust in the state. This committee will be headed by Additional Chief Secretary S Raju.

The other members of the committee will be Secretaries from Labour, Health, Forest, Mining and Industries. The committee has been asked to submit the report of its study within two months. The decision of formation of a committee was taken at a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar.

Apart from this, it was also decided to conduct a health check up of those working in such industries that use silica dust. The health check-up will be conducted to find that so they suffer from silicosis or any other respiratory disease, which can be caused after coming in contact with silica dust.

In case any worker will be diagnosed with any respiratory disease or silicosis would be provided treatment as well as rehabilitation facilities. For this purpose, the Chief Medical Officers of the districts will be made the nodal officer. State's pollution control board would keep a watch on the industries using silica dust.
