Indian economy is expected to grow at 9.5 percent in 2021 and at 8.5 percent in 2022, as per the latest projections by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its World Economic Outlook October 2021 released on October 12, 2021.

AIIMS Delhi Director Dr Randeep Guleria was honoured with the 22nd Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence for his pioneer and sustained contribution in the field of medicine and pandemic awareness.

International Girl Child Day is observed every year on October 11. It is an observance day by the United Nations that aims at amplifying the voices of the young girls all around the world as well as increase awareness about the issues that are faced by them.
4. (a) Elinor Ostrom
Elinor Ostrom was the first woman to be awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in economic sciences for work on human cooperation. She was awarded for her analysis of economic governance, especially the commons.

Indian football skipper Sunil Chhetri with 79 international goals broke legendary Brazilian football player Pele's goal record on October 13, 2021 during the match against the Maldives in the ongoing 2021 SAFF Championship. Sunil Chhetri surpassed Pele's International goal record of 77 goals when he scored a goal in the 62nd minute in India's match against the Maldives.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to extend the Border Security Force's (BSF) jurisdiction from 15 km to 50 km inside the international border along Punjab, West Bengal and Assam. With this, BSF's jurisdiction has now been expanded by 35 km in Punjab, Assam and West Bengal and cut short by 30 km in Gujarat.

India, which was at the 84th position in 2020, fell down to 90th rank in the Henley Passport Index 2021 with its passport holders allowed to travel visa-free to 58 countries around the world. India shares the rank with Tajikistan and Burkina Faso this year.

India has been ranked at the third position in the 58th edition of EY’s Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index’ (RECAI). The index ranks the world’s top 40 markets on the attractiveness of their renewable energy investment and deployment opportunities.

Researchers have found evidence that Pluto's atmosphere is undergoing a dramatic alteration and is starting to disappear as the dwarf planet moves farther away from the Sun.
