1.(a) Sumit Nagal
Indian Tennis player Sumit Nagal on September 1, 2020, created history by becoming the first Indian to win a singles' main draw match at a grand slam in the last 7 years. The current world number 122 successfully stormed into the second round of the ongoing US Open. Somdev Devvarman had reached the second round of the Australian Open, US Open, and French Open earlier in 2013.

2. (d) Mission Karmayogi
Union Cabinet on September 2, 2020 approved Mission Karmayogi for Civil Services Capacity Building. Mission Karmayogi aims to focus on capacity building of individual civil servants as well as institutional capacity building. The mission is being set up to build future-ready civil servants, who will have the right attitude, skills and knowledge that will be in line with the vision of New India.

3. (a) India 
A senior official in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed recently that India will host a summit of the council of heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on November 30, 2020.

4. (b) Russia 
Russia assured India on September 3, 2020 that it will follow a policy of ‘no arms supply to Pakistan’ following a request from India during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s meeting with his Russian counterpart Gen. Sergey Shoigu.

Lebanon's Ambassador to Germany, Mustapha Adib is set to become the country's next Prime Minister. Adib was named by four former Lebanon Prime Ministers as their choice for the post.

The United Arab Emirates has launched an e-market platform 'Agriota' to bridge the gap between Indian farmers and its food industry. The platform is a new technology-driven agri-commodity trading and sourcing e-market platform that will allow rural farmers in India to bypass intermediaries, optimise the supply chain and ensure traceability to create value for all stakeholders.

India has been ranked at the 48th position in the Global Innovation Index 2020 released by World Intellectual Property Organisation. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted to express his happiness over India being ranked among the top 50 nations in the annual index.

Indian renewable energy company, Adani Green has been ranked as the world's number 1 solar energy company in terms of capacity. The company is currently the world's top solar developer with around 2.3 GW of operational projects.

9. (a) China
China is home to the world's largest navy. As per detailed report by Pentagon in the US Congress on September 1, 2020, China is looking to set up new PLA bases in the Indo-Pacific region. 

10. (d) Russia
India and Russia on August 30, 2020 were announced as the joint winners of FIDE (International Chess Federation) Chess Olympiad as Divya Deshmukh and Nihal Sarin lost connection to their games in the 2nd round and had to forfeit.
