GATE Counselling 2025: COAP Registration Dates (OUT), Eligibility, Documents Required & Process

IISc has released the GATE COAP counselling 2025 dates on its official website. Candidates can check the complete GATE counselling schedule here on this page. GATE Counselling 2025 

The GATE exam organising body does not conduct the GATE counselling. This year, the GATE 2025 was organised by IIT Roorkee. The GATE counselling is done through two processes for admission to M.Tech course, one is through CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech) and the other is through COAP  (Common Offer Acceptance Portal).

The GATE COAP counselling is conducted for admission to M.Tech programs in IITs, while GATE CCMT 2025 counselling is for admission to M.Tech programs in NITs, IIITs, GFTIs & CFTIs. The GATE 2025 counselling shall be held by IISc Bangalore. IISc has released the GATE 2025 COAP counselling schedule on its website. The GATE result were published on March 19, 2025 on gate2025.iitr.ac.in. The GATE topper list is also updated. Candidates who have appeared and qualified for GATE 2025 will be eligible for the GATE MTech/M.Arch/M. Plan counselling.

GATE COAP Counselling Schedule 2025 

The GATE counselling process will start from May 13, 2025. It will consist of a total of 10 rounds and will be conducted online. Candidates must register using their highest GATE score as reflected on their GATE scorecard. Those who qualified in GATE 2025, 2024, or 2023 and are seeking M.Tech admission or PSU job offers through participating institutes are eligible to register at COAP 2025. Upon successful registration, candidates will be able to view offers from these institutes, which will be linked to their COAP registration number.

What is GATE Counselling 2025: COAP & CCMT?

The GATE counselling 2025 is conducted separately through different platforms for different institutes and purposes of admission. The GATE two portals for GATE counselling are as follows: 

  • Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP): This is used for admission to M.Tech programs in IITs and PSU recruitment.
  • Centralized Counselling or CCMT: Used for M.Tech admissions in NITs, IIITs, and other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

Candidates are advised to choose the counselling platform based on their preferences and eligibility.

GATE Counselling 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates willing to appear for GATE counselling must ensure that they filfil the given eligibility criteria:

  • A valid GATE scorecard - A GATE scorecard is valid for three years. This means that the candidates who have a valid scorecard of 2025, 2024, 2023 are eligible to apply for it. 
  • Educational Qualification - A bachelor's degree (BTech/BE/BArch/BSc/MSc/MCA, etc) from a recognised university is required. 
  • Minimum Percentage Requirement - Candidates must have secured a minimum of 60% marks or above/ CGPA of 6.0 from a recognised university. 
  • Category-Specific Criteria - Reserved category candidates, such as ST/SC/PwD, have relaxed cutoff and eligibility norms.

GATE COAP 2025 Counselling Process

Pre-Allotment Process:

  1. Register on the official COAP 2025 website.
  2. Carefully read and follow the provided instructions.
  3. Enter your personal details.
  4. Click the Submit button.
  5. Use the login credentials sent via Email/SMS to access the portal.

Admission Acceptance Process:

  1. Log in to the portal.

  2. Navigate to the Seat Allotment section to view institute-wise allotment details.

  3. Choose one of the following options based on your preference:

    • Accept and Freeze: Select this option if you wish to accept an offer and do not want to participate in further counselling rounds. Candidates choosing this option will not be considered for seat upgrades.

    • Retain and Wait: Choose this option if you accept the current offer but also wish to be considered for higher preferences in upcoming rounds. However, any rejected offers from the current round will not be reconsidered. If a higher preference is allotted later, the existing Retain and Wait offer will be released.

    • Reject and Wait: Opt for this if you do not wish to accept any offers in the current round but still want to be considered for higher preferences in future rounds.

  4. Click the Submit button to proceed with the admission process.

GATE Counselling Process through CCM for Admission to NIT, IIIT, CFTI 

CCMT counselling for admission to the MTech programmes at NITs, IIITs and CFTIs is done through CCMT counselling-based GATE scores. The eligibility criteria CCMT GATE counselling are as follows: 

CCMT Eligibility

  • Candidates must have a valid GATE score of 2024/2024/2023
  • A minimum of 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks must be acquired in the qualifying exam (For General and OBC). 
  • For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, the eligibility is set at a minimum of 6.0 CGPA or 55% marks.

CCMT Seat Allotment Process

CCMT offers different choices to candidates during seat allotment:

  • Freeze: Accept the allotted seat and exit the counselling process.

  • Float: Keep the seat while being considered for a better choice.

  • Slide: Keep the seat in the same institute but opt for a better specialization.
