GATE Eligibility Criteria 2025

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2025 is released each year by the GATE exam organising body. This year, the GATE 2025 exam is being held by ITT Roorkee. Candidates who are in 3rd year of graduation or higher year can fill the GATE application form. International students who are keen on pursuing higher education in India can also apply for GATE exam.

Indian as well as international students can apply for GATE exam. 

Academic Qualification

> Candidates must have passed graduation in engineering/technology or Master’s degree in any relevant science subject.

> Candidates in the3rd year or final year of their qualifying degree are also eligible to appear for GATE 2025

> Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: Must be currently in the 3rd or higher years or completed their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 3 years) in Engineering / Technology / Science / Arts / Commerce.

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2025: Educational Qualification

The candidates who are interested in applying for GATE 2025 exam should ensure that they fulfil the GATE educational qualification as per the GATE notification. A candidate who is currently studying in 3rd year or higher year of graduation or has completed the government-approved degree can appear for GATE exam. The details about GATE qualifying degree, expected year of completion of graduation etc is given in the following table.

Professional Societies Conducting Examination Equivalent to B.E./B.Tech

Following is a list of acceptable professional institutes whose degree is accepted for GATE exam 2025. 

  • The Institution of Engineers (India) (IE)
  • The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
  • The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
  • The Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI)
  • The Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Polymer and Environmental Group (IIChemE)
  • The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM)
  • The Indian Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIIE)

GATE Eligibility Criteria 2025 For International Students

International students keen on pursuing GATE exam from India can also apply for GATE 2025 exam. Check the eligibility criteria for GATE exam for international students. 

  • International candidates from countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) can also appear for GATE exam.
  • In order to pursue GATE exam, candidates should be a graduate or must be in final year or the third year of their bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology.

Certificate Required For GATE 2025 Eligibility Criteria

All the candidates appearing for GATE 2025 exam must ensure that they verify their eligibility by providing suitable documents. Here is a list of the documents that must be uploaded by candidates to prove their eligibility. 

  • Candidates are required to submit the professional degree or certificate issued by the officials. 
  • Those in the final year of graduation will have to upload the provisional certificate issued by the Head of the Institute/Dean/Registrar/Head of Department or a copy of their mark sheet for section A of AMIE, etc. 
  • PwD candidates are required to upload a PwD certificate issued to them by competent authorities. 

GATE Eligibility for M.Tech 

Candidates who qualify GATE exam will be offered admission in M. Tech courses in colleges offering M. Tech programs in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other prestigious institutions. Candidates will have to apply separately for different counselling process for admission in M. Tech. However, in order to take admission in IITs, candidates will have to complete the GATE 2025 registration through COAP which will be carried out separately. On the other hand, those willing to pursue M. Tech from NITs, IIITs, CFTIs will have to apply through  Centralized Counselling for M.Tech 2025 or CCMT. :

    The GATE 2025 eligibility criteria is 10+2+3. Additionally, those candidates who have completed their undergraduate degree programme or are in their third year of study may register for the GATE admission exam.

    GATE 2025 score card is valid for three years from the date of announcement of the result. GATE candidates who want to improve their scores can take the examinations again next year.     As per the GATE exam schedule, the GATE 2025 exam will be held on 1, 2, 15, and 16 in two shifts. The exam shall be conducted in online mode in two sessions - the Forenoon Session and the Evening session.
