Ashley Blazer Biden was born on June 8, 1981, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Jill Biden, a teacher, and Joe Biden, a U.S. senator. She is the half-sister of Beau Biden, Hunter Biden and Naomi Biden, her father's children from his first marriage to Neilia Hunter. Biden was raised in the Catholic faith and attended Wilmington Friends School and Archmere Academy in Delaware.
Education and Career
Biden graduated from Tulane University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in cultural anthropology. In 2010, she earned her master's degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy and Practice.
Biden worked as a social worker and career development and education liaison in the education office for the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families. She developed programs for children in the juvenile justice, foster care, and mental health systems. From 2014 to 2019, she served as the executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice.
In 2019, Biden left her job at the Delaware Center for Justice to work on her father's presidential campaign. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in clinical social work at the University of Pennsylvania.
Fashion and Activism
In 2017, Biden launched the Livelihood Collection, an ethical fashion clothing brand, at New York Fashion Week. The brand collaborated with Gilt Groupe and Aubrey Plaza to raise money for community programs focused on eliminating income inequality in the United States.
As a child, Biden discovered that the cosmetics company Bonne Bell tested its products on animals. She wrote a letter to the company asking them to change their policy on animal testing. She later got involved in dolphin conservation, inspiring her father to work with Congresswoman Barbara Boxer to write and pass the 1990 Dolphin Protection Consumer Information Act.
Personal Life
In 2012, Biden married Howard Krein, an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon from Philadelphia. They have no children together.
