If you are an expert at spotting deception, spot which woman is lying?

Communication happens in two ways: verbal and non-verbal. Body language experts say we speak with our entire body. Non-verbal body language includes eye gaze, posture, facial expressions, etc. 90 per cent of human communication is non-verbal. Facial expressions are the most expressive form of communication of all body language cues. 

The ability to read body language can help you learn of the micro-expressions, subtle body cues, and defensive gestures for detecting lies and deception. Lying is embedded in human behaviour that occurs in everyday interactions. You must have often found yourself stuck in a lie or engaging with a liar.

Commonly noticed cues of lying include longer pauses, increased blinking, lack of eye contact, touching the nose, ears, chin, etc. Now, these are by no means universal cues to detect a liar, but studying body language can help you gain insight into the complexities of the human behaviour of a liar and spot deception in a few interactions.

Above is an image of four women engaging in different gestures. Your task is to identify which of them is lying. 

Observe the gestures, hand placement, and eye gaze, of each woman. Whether the hands are crossed or moving while talking.

Woman 1

If you thought woman 1 is the liar, you misinterpreted. She is talking with open palms. She is an open book. Her hand gesture shows openness and transparency. She can be seen as honest and trustworthy. This woman is not lying.

Woman 2

If you thought woman 2 is the liar, you are not entirely wrong but you should be cautious. She is touching her ear which could mean mean she is trying to make a decision, but remains indecisive about something. This gesture could also mean she is being untruthful or could be in doubt or uncertain about telling the complete truth. She may be hiding something.

Woman 3

If you thought woman 3 is the liar, you are wrong. She is resting her chin upon her hand which is a sign of deep interest in the conversation. She is attentively listening to every detail in the conversation. She is not lying.

Woman 4

If you though woman 4 is the liar, you are absolutely correct. she is covering her mouth with her hand, which is indicative of lying behaviour. That's why kids lying are easier to spot. When kid lies, they are likely to immediately cover their mouth with one or both hands. The woman in this picture is lying.
