IPL Playoff Teams Scenarios 2024

1. KKR Playoffs Qualification Scenarios

After their victory over MI in the rain-curtailed match in Kolkata last night, KKR has solidified their place in the top four. With two more games left, their focus now shifts towards securing a top-two position. They have the potential to amass up to 22 points, which would equal the league stage record. Their upcoming fixtures include a match against GT in Ahmedabad, followed by a clash with RR in Jaipur. However, it's their final league game against Rajasthan that could ultimately determine their quest for a top-two finish in IPL 2024.

2. RR Playoff Qualification Scenario

The recent defeat against CSK marks Rajasthan Royals' third consecutive loss, signaling a notable decline in their once-dominant form. Despite maintaining a top position for the majority of the league, RR now display signs of vulnerability. With two games left, they require just one victory to secure a playoff berth. Both remaining matches are scheduled at their home ground, where they will face PBKS and the current table-topper, KKR. The upcoming match against the eliminated PBKS presents RR with their best opportunity to secure a playoff spot.

A win for RR in this crucial encounter will guarantee that neither CSK, RCB, DC, nor LSG can surpass them in the points table. However, if RR were to lose both remaining fixtures and remain at 16 points, the possibility arises for three other teams to reach the same total. In such a scenario, Net Run Rate (NRR) could become decisive, allowing SRH and CSK to leapfrog RR. Although LSG could also attain 16 points, surpassing RR in NRR is highly improbable. Hence, even in the event of consecutive losses, RR would likely secure a playoff berth.

3. IPL 2024 CSK Qualification Scenario

CSK's win over RR puts them in contention for a playoff spot in the crucial match against RCB. A win guarantees a spot, but if they lose, they must ensure they don't lose by more than 18 runs to maintain a better NRR than RCB. They also rely on SRH and LSG to falter in their remaining games for a top-four finish.

4. IPL 2024 SRH Playoff Qualification Scenario

SRH leads in the race for the third IPL 2024 playoff spot, but their qualification is not guaranteed. With 14 points and two games left, they can secure a playoff berth by reaching 18 points. However, one loss in their last two games could jeopardise their chances. CSK, along with LSG or DC, could tie with SRH on points. If SRH loses both games, they might fall behind CSK and LSG. Their upcoming opponents are GT and PBKS. Wins in both matches secure their playoff spot, and if RR loses their last two games, SRH can aim for a top-two finish.

5. IPL 2024 RCB Qualification Scenario

RCB's resurgence with five consecutive wins positions them as contenders for a playoff spot, with their final league game against CSK emerging as the decisive encounter. A loss would terminate RCB's campaign, but a victory keeps their hopes alive. To secure their spot, RCB must defeat CSK by more than 18 runs (assuming they score 200) to surpass CSK's NRR. While SRH and LSG remain threats, LSG would have concluded both matches by the time RCB faces CSK. If SRH and LSG lose their remaining games, remaining below 14 points, and RCB secures the aforementioned victory, both RCB and CSK could advance to the top four.

6. IPL 2024 DC Qualification Scenario

Delhi Capitals' recent defeat against RCB effectively sidelines them from the playoff contention. With only one game left against LSG, DC can at most accumulate 14 points. However, even in the event that SRH, LSG, CSK, and RCB all finish with 14 points, DC's NRR doesn't favour them, placing them at a disadvantage. The best-case scenarios, including heavy defeats for SRH in their final two games, CSK prevailing over RCB, and LSG losing both matches, offer only slim hope for DC, bordering on wishful thinking rather than a realistic possibility.

7. LSG Playoff Qualification Scenarios

CSK and RCB's victories on Sunday have intensified the challenge for LSG. With an NRR of -0.769, the lowest among the playoff contenders, LSG faces a daunting hurdle, even if they win their remaining two matches. Although they could accumulate 16 points, their playoff hopes hinge on specific outcomes. LSG would require SRH to lose both games, remaining at 14 points, and CSK to lose against RCB, also staying at 14 points. Under this scenario, LSG could secure a playoff berth as the third-placed team. However, if SRH wins at least one game and CSK triumphs over RCB, LSG's playoff aspirations would be thwarted, as their NRR would likely prove insufficient for a top-four finish.

8. GT IPL Playoff Qualification Scenario

The match between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday, May 13, was abandoned due to rain. As a result, last season's runners-up, Gujarat Titans, became the third team to be officially eliminated from the race to the playoffs of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), joining Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings.

9. IPL 2024 PBKS Qualification Scenario - Out Of Contention

Their bid for the playoffs has concluded, with even the prospect of attaining a joint fifth position being meagre at a mere 0.6%.

10. IPL 2024 MI Qualification Scenario - Out of Contention

MI's hopes for the playoffs have also been dashed. Their highest attainable position is a joint seventh, with even that possibility resting at a mere 2.3% chance.
