How Is the Points Table Maintained?

Following the culmination of their 14 league-stage matches, the primary aim for all 10 IPL franchises is to secure a position within the top 4 in the points table. Subsequently, achieving a place within the top two holds as the secondary objective, as it grants the additional opportunity to qualify for the IPL Finals.

The IPL points table is structured based on the accumulation of points by each team. In scenarios where two teams conclude with an equal number of points, their positioning in the points table hinges on calculating the 'Net Run Rate' (NRR).

Outlined below are the rules governing the accumulation of points in the IPL points table 2023:

- Each victorious encounter earns a team 2 points.
- In the event of a match being abandoned or terminated prematurely resulting in a No Result, a team is awarded 1 point.
- A team incurs 0 points in the event of a loss.

Regarding the calculation of the 'Net Run Rate' (NRR), it serves to determine the final standings of teams should multiple teams conclude with identical points. The NRR of a team is computed as the disparity between 'the number of runs scored by the team to the number of overs faced' and 'the number of runs conceded by the team to the number of overs bowled' throughout the tournament.
