The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 shall kick off today on 22 March 2024. The tournament will run until 7 April 2024. Throughout this initial two-week phase, fans will be treated to a total of 21 action-packed matches. These matches will be hosted across 10 different cities. IPL, a franchise Twenty20 cricket league in India, is organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

As per the schedule by BCCI officially released, the IPL 2024 opener will see the Chennai Super Kings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 22 March 2024. The match will begin at 8 PM IST. As per the latest developments, MS Dhoni has also stepped down as Captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to hand over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Though, MS Dhoni will be part of the franchise this year.

MS Dhoni, the iconic captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has passed the leadership baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad for the 2024 TATA IPL season. Dhoni, celebrated for steering CSK to five IPL titles and making the playoffs 12 times, has captained the team in 235 matches, securing 143 wins. He concludes his captaincy with 4794 runs, including 22 fifties.

Gaikwad, a standout performer for CSK since 2020, has amassed 1797 runs in 52 matches, boasting an impressive average of 39.06. His leadership qualities were also on display when he led India to a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Delhi Capitals

Captain: David Warner

Coach: Ricky Pointing

Delhi Capitals, formerly known as Delhi Daredevils, have entrusted the leadership to David Warner for the 2024 IPL season. Warner led Sunrisers Hyderabad to IPL glory in 2018. Under coach Ricky Ponting, DC aims to build on recent successes, having reached the playoffs in 2021 and the finals in 2020.

Gujarat Titans

Captain: Shubhan Gill

Coach: Ashish Nehra

Gujarat Titans, the team that made an unforgettable entrance by winning their maiden IPL title in 2022 under Hardik Pandya's leadership, sees a new captain for the 2024 season, Shubman Gill. With Ashish Nehra as the coach, the team looks to replicate its early success and continue its formidable presence in the IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Captain: Shreyas Iyer

Coach: Chandrakant Pandit

For the 2024 IPL season, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reinstated Shreyas Iyer as their captain, following a period where the captaincy saw frequent changes.
