Hardik Pandya’s absence from ODI cricket has become a point of discussion on social media. In the recently announced Indian squad for the West Indies, Hardik Pandya missed out on both the T20 and ODI squads due to his recovery from injury.
Hardik is currently dealing with a quadriceps injury, calf strain and subsequent leg injuries. He was last seen in professional cricket during the IPL in May 2026 with Mumbai Indians. Since then, he has been out of the field and his continued absence has become a concern for the Indian team.
In this article, we will look at Hardik Pandya’s injury issues and the series he has missed due to injury.
Which Injuries Have Frequently Occurred to Hardik Pandya?
Hardik Pandya’s career has been a long one, marked by injuries. However, since the 2023 ODI World Cup, he has been away from the Indian setup for long periods. He did play in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where India won the title but recurring injuries have continued to be a concern.
1. Left Ankle Ligament Tear and Microfracture
This injury took place in October 2023 during the ODI World Cup in a match against Bangladesh. Hardik Pandya was trying to field a ball while bowling when he suddenly appeared to be in extreme pain. He was taken off the field and eventually ruled out of the tournament as well.
The injury kept him out of play for almost 5 months and was a major setback for India during the World Cup.
2. Recurring Lower Back Spasms
Hardik Pandya underwent major back surgery in 2019 and the problem has reoccurred once again. He has experienced stiffness in the back and spasms earlier this year in Indian Premier League. These issues have also affected his availability, including during the latter part of the IPL 2026 season.
3. Quadriceps Strain
The quadriceps is the upper thigh and front leg muscle. Hardik Pandya suffered a quadriceps strain during high intensity fitness training at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in June.
It was a standard muscle pull caused by the high level of exertion and explosive movements involved in fast bowling. This injury became another setback for Hardik Pandya as he continued his recovery.
