National Energy Conservation Day 2023: Every year, National Energy Conservation Day is observed on December 14. The day spread the message to conserve energy and to mark the nation's achievements in energy efficiency and conservation. On this occassion, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, organize special awards under the Energy Conservation Act 2001 with a vision to regulate and promote energy efficiency and its conservation.
The GOI founded the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on March 1, 2002. It was set under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 to develop policies and strategies to cater for self-regulation and different market principles.

The National Energy Conservation Day and the Awards are organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. This organisation was set up under the Energy Conservation Act 2001, to regulate and promote energy efficiency and its conservation in India.
National Energy Conservation Awards 2023
The National Energy Conservation Awards are meant to raise awareness about energy efficiency and its conservation. It recognizes and encourages the endeavours of industrial units, institutions, and organisations to reduce energy consumption on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day.
BEE announced November 9 as the last date to receive applications for NECA 2023. Out of a total of 516, a total of 63 prizes comprising 20 first prizes, 16 second prizes and 27 Certificates of Merit are being awarded.

National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards (NEEIA) 2023
This category recognizes outstanding work and innovative minds of India in the area of Energy Efficiency. National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards was started in the year 2021. The awards awards are evaluated based on Replicability, Affordability, Reliability, Impact on Energy Savings and Impact on Environment & Sustainability. Out of all 187 applications received till November 9, a total of 8 prizes comprising 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 6 Certificates of Recognition are being awarded.

Other than the award ceremony, the Ministry of Power has been organizing the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation since 2005. It aims to bring change in society towards overconsumption of electricity and promote conservation and efficient use of energy. The competition is organized at State and National Levels and is organized for students of 5th, 6th and 7th Standards under Group ‘A’ and of 8th, 9th and 10th standards under Group ‘B’.
On the occassion of National Energy Conservation Day 2023, President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu will address the gathering and felicitate the winners of the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023, National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards 2023 and National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2023, at Vigyan Bhawan.
