Years of hard work and perseverance have finally given the results for many sportspersons with the release of the list of the National Sports Awards winners by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The Hon'ble President of India will confer the National Sports Awards 2023 on the 9th of January, 2024.

It can be said that the coming year is going to be very auspicious for many sportspersons of India, and Rankireddy Satwik Sai Raj and Chirag Chandrashekhar Shetty are going to be two of them, as they will be bestowed with the prestigious

 2023.

Additionally, a total of 26 sportspersons are going to receive the Arjuna Awards for their outstanding performance in Sports and Games 2023.

 

The event

 

According to the press release presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the Hon'ble President of India is going confer the prestigious awards to the awardees at a special function on 9th January 2024, at 11:00 hours at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

After the Committee's recommendations and immense scrutiny, the list of awardees is prepared by the Government. 

The National Sports Awards are conferred every year in order to recognize excellence in sports.

Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award 2023:

 

The award is conferred for the most outstanding performance in the area of sports by a sportsperson over the time period of the last four years.

Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games 2023:

 

The award is conferred for great performance over a time period of the last four years and for demonstrating qualities of sportsmanship, a sense of discipline, and leadership.

Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games 2023:

 

The award is conferred to honor the sportspersons who have actually contributed to the field of sports through their performance, and who contribute to sports even post-retirement.

Ms Kavitha Selvaraj for Kabaddi

 

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy 2023:

 

The award is given to the overall high-performing university in inter-university tournaments.

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar for Overall winning university

Lovely Professional University, Punjab for 1st runner-up University

Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra for 2nd runner-up University

The applications for the awards were invited through online mode. Coaches, entities, and sportspersons were allowed to self-apply via an Online Portal especially dedicated to this purpose. This year, the number of applications and nominations received was huge. This Selection Committee with Justice A. M. Khanwilkar, Retd. Judge, the Supreme Court of India as its head considered these applications. The Committee comprised of important sportspersons, and people holding great experience in the field of sports journalism.
