Assam Chief Minister lays foundation of first Skill University of Eastern India

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has laid the foundation for the first Skill University of Eastern India in Darrang district. The Skill University is aimed at imparting training for over 10,000 students in across 12 disciplines.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has laid the foundation for the first Skill University of Eastern India in Darrang district which is aimed at imparting training to over 10,000 students in 12 disciplines. The university will also be built with a financial outlay of Rs.1000 Crore. 

According to reports, it is expected that the Skill University will be completed by 2026 and will have an understanding with countries including Germany, Taiwan, South Korea, Israel, Japan, England he said. 

The Chief Minister also stated that it has taken decisions to set up institutions of repute in different districts in the state. He further stated that the Act East Policy has created many opportunities for students to prepare themselves for the future. 

Asam Minister for Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Development - Chandra Mohan Patowary has termed the day and important since the process has been initiated for setting up the third skill university in India.

Assam School Reopening

Schools in Assam have introduced a scheme to get students especially the girl students to attend the schools and physical classes after reopening post-COVID-19. According to reports, the Assam State Government will be providing Rs. 100 to every girl student to attend schools and also offer incentives to students who bring the others back to school and colleges to attend classes regularly. 

The Assam State Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that as part of the financial assistance scheme, the state government will be depositing R.s 1500 and Rs. 2000 respectively for the undergraduate and postgraduate students into their bank accounts. The money will be used by the students to purchase books and continue their academic learning. The education minister has also mentioned that the scheme was in work since last year but couldn't be implemented due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
