IIT M.Tech Fee hike to be blamed?
Many experts have attributed the fall in the number of GATE 2020 applications to the recently announced 900% hike in the M.Tech course fees at IITs. Soon, IITs will adopt a uniform fee structure for the M.Tech programmes offered by IITs, which will lead to hike of around 900% for certain courses at certain institutes. However, GATE 2020 organizing committee chairman BR Chahar has denied IIT M.Tech Course Fee hike to be the primary reason for decline in GATE 2020 applications. He said that there are several reasons for the decline in number of applicants. He further added that GATE 2020 exam is very competitive in nature as many PSUs shortlist and select students for entry-level roles based on their GATE exam score.
