Day 1 honored 1,277 undergraduate students (1,001 male, 276 female) across various programs, including its inaugural BS-MS batch. IIT Roorkee: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee started its two-day convocation 2026 on September 19, 2026, by awarding 1,277 undergraduate degrees that include 1,001 males and 276 females at the beginning of the convocation. In the overall two-day process, 2,701 degrees will be awarded at IIT Roorkee, and this figure is considered to be the largest convocation awards given in the history of this prestigious institution. Day 1 of the convocation has honored the academic excellence of the undergraduate students who graduated from different undergraduate courses such as B.Tech, B.Arch, Integrated M.Tech, Integrated M.Sc, IDD, and B.S., apart from offering the first-ever five-year BS-MS dual degree program of IIT Roorkee.
The convocation address was delivered by the Chief Guest Shri Ajit Kumar Doval, National Security Advisor of India, who was awarded the Honoris Causa degree. Apart from him, the Guest of Honour was General N. S. Raja Subramani, Chief of Defence Staff. Srivaradan Balaji of BS-MS Chemical Sciences received President's Gold Medal for earning the highest CGPA of JEE Advanced intake.
