Indian entrepreneur, strategic investor and table tennis player Aman Dhall has announced a five-year scholarship programme at Loughborough University. The scholarship has been announced in memory of his late father Virendra Kumar Dhall. The five-year scholarship of GBP 12,500 aims to support Indian students at Loughborough competing at the international level or representing India in their respective sports.
Loughborough University has been a training ground for India’s youth sporting icon, Neeraj Chopra, and home to many current and former international sporting icons such as Lord Sebastian Coe, Adam Peaty OBE and Paula Radcliffe MBE.
About the Scholarship
The Virendra Kumar Dhall Scholarship for Sporting Excellence is designed to empower young Indian athletes facing financial or other obstacles in their pursuit of sporting excellence. Candidates eligible include those at Loughborough University studying at the undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD.
The annual scholarship will provide financial held of upto £2,500 to athlete scholars covering essential costs associated with training and competing in high-level sporting events, travel for trials, equipment, coaching, nutritional advice, gym memberships and other necessary resources for performance sports.
Nick Jennings, Vice Chancellor of Loughborough University stated that the university welcomes exciting talent from across the world to benefit from the outstanding performance sports programmes. The new scholarship for sporting excellence will ensure that young Indian athletes are empowered to do so. Aman Dhall’s generosity and support through this scheme share precisely this vision, he added.
Aman Dhall stated that the scholarship is a tribute to his father, who always believed in his potential to represent India. By providing this support to help talented Indian athletes overcome the obstacles that he once faced, so they can achieve their dreams. He further added that the scholarship acknowledges that athletes often require funding from various sources to train at the highest level, so it imposes no restrictions for those already holding other scholarships."
