CBSE Changes 2024: As the year 2023 is about to conclude, it's time to reflect on the changes introduced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). From restructuring the board exam pattern to expanding language options, CBSE introduced initiatives aimed at making education more flexible, holistic, and inclusive. Let's take a closer look at the major CBSE updates:

Changed exam pattern with a focus on competency-based learning

CBSE introduced a shift in the exam pattern, emphasizing application-based questions to assess students' practical understanding and problem-solving skills. Question papers will have an increased number of competency-based questions. This would help students prepare for real-world challenges and foster critical thinking skills essential for competitive exams.

Discontinuation of division, percentage

This is one of the progressive decisions CBSE announced in 2023. As per a statement released by the board, “No overall divisions, distinctions, and aggregates shall be awarded to the class 10 and 12 students appearing for the CBSE board exams in 2024.” This shift aims at reducing the pressure of a single score and encourages students to excel in individual subjects. Moreover, the move is designed to promote deeper understanding and discourage rote learning.

Board exams turn flexible from next session

Responding to requests for greater flexibility, CBSE introduced the option of two board exams per year from the upcoming academic session, 2024-25. This will give students a chance to sit for exams twice a year, providing them with an opportunity to improve their scores. The best score obtained by students will be considered for their college admissions and other purposes. This would reduce the stress associated with a single high-stakes exam.

Worked to enhance linguistic diversity

In a significant move towards inclusivity, CBSE expanded the number of languages accepted as mediums of instruction. Now, students have the option of choosing their preferred medium of instruction from the list of 22 regional languages. Learning in their mother tongue will help students achieve better comprehension and understanding. Thus, the move aims to provide a conducive environment for students from diverse linguistic backgrounds to excel in their academics.

Released sample papers at the beginning of the session

To enhance transparency and assist students in early preparations for their board exams, CBSE released the sample papers and marking schemes on 31st March, 2023. The sample papers and marking schemes for all subjects offered in classes 10, and 12 were released to provide valuable insights into the exam pattern and assessment criteria, aiding students in their preparation right from the beginning of the session.

Special arrangements set for Olympiad participants and athletes

To encourage participation in sports and Olympiads, CBSE introduced special arrangements for students attending these events during exams. The board will conduct special exams for students whose exam dates coincide with their participation in national and international sports events, as well as international Olympiads, including travel dates for these events in 2024. This would help students strike a balance between their academic pursuits and extracurricular passions.

Accountancy Answer Book Discontinued

From the Board Examination 2024 onward, the CBSE, will not provide the Accountancy answer books wherein tables were provided and students will get normal lines answer books as provided in other subjects in Class 12. This would help streamline the marking process.

These are just a few of the impactful changes introduced by CBSE in the year 2023. These initiatives demonstrate the board's commitment to making education more flexible and promoting holistic learning.
