On 9 December 2017, the historic Chetwode Drill Square at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun witnessed the passing out parade of 487 Gentleman Cadets, including 78 Foreign Gentleman Cadets from seven friendly foreign countries.
While the parade was reviewed by Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Lt. Chandrakant Acharya was adjudged as the best performing cadet and presented the coveted Sword of Honour.

The Reviewing Officer also inspected the Guard of Honour given by the Gentlemen Cadets and congratulated the Gentlemen Cadets on the successful completion of their training at IMA. In his speech, the visiting dignitary urged the cadets to uphold the values of the Indian Army and laid emphasis on the readiness for the conventional and non-conventional challenges.
Besides the 78 Foreign Gentleman Cadets, officers belonging to 141 Regular course, 124 Technical Graduate course and 25 University Entry Scheme of the IMA, Dehradun were granted the permanent commission on this occasion.
Passing Out Parade
The Passing Out Parade is the most spectacular among the end-of-term events at the IMA, Dehradun. It is also the culminating event of another successful term. The unique parade held at the Chetwode Drill Square comprises over hundreds of participating cadets bidding farewell to their senior colleagues.
A masterly display of drill movements, synchronized with the accompanying band ingrains long lasting memories in participants as well as viewers. At the final step, engulfed by a flood of nostalgia each cadet can feel justifiably proud of one’s achievement.
Jagran Josh extends all the best wishes for the newly commissioned officers on this occassion.
