Sedentary lifestyle is one of the key reasons that have adversely impacted health of working professionals. Adding to it, other factors such as poor food choices, less amount of physical activity has also degraded the quality of our healthy lifestyles. But the most visible sign of the deteriorating lifestyle is obesity. ‘Obesity’ is commonly visible and most pressing issue with the people working in offices. With growing number of people in India, complaining about obesity, it is time that we do not lose the talented pool of experts due to the malice of obesity. Not only obesity create health issues to an individual with extra pounds but obese employees are often viewed as less competent, lazy and lacking in self-discipline by their co-workers and employers. In a survey study, employees have even highlighted that obesity affected their salary and even chances of promotions because the employers lost trust in the well being of the employee’s future.

So here are a few tips to fight obesity due to sedentary lifestyle at the workplace:

1. Never skip breakfast

As a first step, if you are really bothered about your increasing weight, then you must never skip breakfast. It is the first meal of the day and must be consumed within an hour from the time you wake up. Because it provides the essential nutrients to your body, hence it is necessary to rely on breakfast for an energetic day.

2. Curb the consumption of raw vegetables

Your lunch box must carry green and protein rich vegetables but when it comes to raw vegetables, do not feed on them too much. Human body is not accustomed to digest and break down raw vegetables and it slow down the rate of metabolism. So carry steamed or cooked vegetables that you can consume with chapatti or rice. Your gastro-intestinal track will always remain in good shape.

3. Exclude the C.R.A.P. from your daily diet

To put in right terms, C.R.A.P here means that food which spoils your health and induces you to become obese. Here C stands for caffeine, R for refined sugar, A for alcohol and P for processed food. The day you pledge to exclude the intake of these 4 components from your daily diet, you will feel a difference in the body weight. These four major parts of diet are the reason for your pot belly. If you wish to get a flat belly, reduce the intake of C.R.A.P food.

4. Cut-off fizzy drinks

Fizz for sure quenches your taste for thunder but these carbonated drinks undoubtedly increase your weight. As a matter of fact, the unnecessary fats in the cold drinks make one lethargic and less productive at the workplace. And once you get the habit of consuming soft drinks, you will find it hard to leave it. So prevent yourself from the intake of carbonated drinks and replace them with green teas and juices. They will provide you with vital nutrients that will help your body grow rightfully.

5. Probiotic yogurt

Lactobacillus present in the yogurt accelerates the process of digestions and keeps your metabolism healthy. Regular intake of yogurt in your diet will save you from growing a puffed belly. In fact, if you have sweet cravings, yogurt is one of the best means to appease your sugar cravings without gaining extra pounds. So do not forget to include yogurt in your daily diet and shed some extra layers of skin with an added glow.

6. Include Fish-oil supplements in diet

If you are not a lover of sea food and do like to savour fish, then try preparing food using fish oil. The oil is full of omega-3 fatty acids that are said to reduce the risk factors associated with heart disease, including high cholesterol and high blood pressure. But, if you do not like the aroma of fish oil then you can try cod-liver oil tablets which are also made from the similar composition. These supplements help in burning fat, leading to a flat belly.

7. Avoid eating after 8pm

Someone has rightly put that "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper". For someone working in a 9-5 job, it might seem difficult to have your last meal by 8pm. But if you consume your last meal at this hour of the day, then your digestive system will always remain in good shape.

It is very crucial that you take proper care of your increasing weight because obesity often makes an individual lazy and less productive. A secret to happier and healthier employees, who are also more productive, is good health.
