IGIDR issues notice for Admission to M,Sc and M. Phil / Ph.D programmes

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is a deemed University and an Advanced Research Institute established by Reserve Bank of India 25 years ago. The University celebrating its Silver Jubilee Year has been reaccredited with A-Grade by NAAC.

IGIDR issued notification inviting applications for admission to the M.Sc. (Economics) and M.Phil./Ph.D. (Development Studies) programmes. Interested eligible candidates can send their applications in the prescribed format till 22 March 2013.

Programme Details

Programme Name:  M.Sc. (Economics)
Duration: Two-years (will commence in August 2013)
Stipend / Scholarship: Need-based scholarships are available to Masters students as per Institute’s norms.
Eligibility: B.A./ B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com./ B.Stat./B.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics) /B.Tech. /B.E. with at least a second division for Economics discipline and first division for other disciplines or their equivalents. Applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary / higher level.
Programme Name: M.Phil. / Ph.D. (Development Studies)
Duration: M.Phil.-- Two years
Ph.D. -- Four years.
(These are interdisciplinary programmes commencing in August 2013.)  
Stipend: Monthly stipend of Rs.12000 for first two years.
Students, who fulfill the terms and conditions for Ph.D. registration, receive monthly stipend of Rs.18000 after Ph. D. registration in the third year.

Eligibility: M.A. / M.Sc in Economics / M.Stat. / M.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research) / M.B.A. / M.Tech. / M.E. / B.Tech. / B.E. with at least 55% aggregate
marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines or their equivalents.  
Applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary / higher level.

Selection Procedure: Candidates will be selected on the basis of their performance in written test and Interview. There will be separate written test for M.Sc. and M.Phil/Ph.D. candidates. However, both the written tests will be aimed at assessing candidates general aptitude, analytical ability and mathematical skills at appropriate levels. In addition M.Sc. students will have the option of answering a section either on Economics or Mathematics at undergraduate level.

The written test will be held on 28 April 2013 at these 14 centres:

Ahmadabad

Allahabad

Bangalore Bhubaneshwar Chandigarh Chennai

Guwahati

Hyderabad

Jaipur

Kolkata Lucknow

Mumbai

New Delhi Thiruvananthapuram

The test venue will be notified in the call letter.

Based on the performance in the written test, short listed candidates will be called for an Interview at IGIDR in third / fourth week of June 2013.

Travel Allowance: 2nd class return rail fare by the shortest route from the place of residence will be paid to the candidates appearing for Interview.

Application Fee: Application fee of Rs.500 (non-refundable) has to be paid by Demand Draft drawn in favour of ‘Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR)’ payable at Mumbai.

For candidates applying online, application fee is Rs.300 only.
SC/ST/Physically disabled are exempted from payment of application fees.

How to Apply: Candidates can apply online through the website www.igidr.ac.in till 22 March 2013.

Others can send their applications in the prescribed format along with fee DD and copies of required documents by post to ‘The Students Office, IGIDR, Gen. A.K. Vaidya Marg, Santosh Nagar, Goregaon (East), Mumbai 400 065’ so as to reach there by prescribed last date.  

These candidates can obtain the application form in person from the Institute Students’ Office on a working days (between 0915 hours and 1745 hours) by paying the application fee or though post by sending a request for the same along with fee DD to the Student Office mentioning the  candidate's name, date of birth,  gender, address, academic qualifications and choice of test centre. Candidates can also download the application form directly from the IGIDR website www.igidr.ac.in, fill it and sent it along with fee DD to ‘The Students Office, IGIDR, Gen. A.K. Vaidya Marg, Santosh Nagar, Goregaon (East), Mumbai 400 065’.  

All the applications, whether sent by post or dropped in by hand or filled online should reach the Students’ Office IGIDR till 22 March 2013.
