Indian Army Recruitment of Candidates under Short Service Commission 2011

Applications are invited from UNMARRIED/ MARRIED male and unmarried female or widow of defence personnel candidates for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Indian Army.

Total vacancies

  • NCC Men 50 posts (45 for General category and 5 for ward of Battle Casualties)
  • NCC Women 6 posts (10% each of vacancies for men and women are reserved for Wards of Battle Casualties of Army only)
  • Widows of Defence Personnel: 2 posts (1 for SSCW (Tech), 1 for SSCW (Non-Tech))

Important Dates

  • Last date for receipt of application at NCC Bn/Gp HQ-10: 16 August 2011
  • Last date for receipt of application at Rtg Dte from Dte Gen NCC: 1 October 2011
  • Last date of receipt of application of Rtg. Dte for Widows of Defence Personnel
    and Wards of Battle Causalities: 15 September 2011

Eligibility Criteria

The criteria of NCC ‘C' Certificate holders to appear directly for SSB for Short Service Course (Non Technical) at Officers Training Academy, Chennai, are as follows:

  • Educational Qualification: Degree of a recognised University or equivalent with aggregate of minimum 50% marks taking into account marks of all the years.
  • Service in NCC: Should have served for minimum 2 academic years in the senior Division/ Wing of NCC
  • Grading: Should have obtained minimum of ‘B' Grade in ‘C' Certificate Exam of NCC.

For Widows of Defence Personnel and Wards of Battle Casualties of NCC ‘C' certificate is not required.

Age limit

For NCC candidates (including Wards of Battle Casualties): between 19 years to 25 years (not born earlier than 2 January 1987 and not later than 1 January 1993).

Entry for Widow of Defence Personnel with 4 years age relaxation

i) SSCW (Non-Tech): Graduation in any discipline; 19 years to 29 years (Not born earlier than 2 January 1983 and not later than 1 January 1994.

ii) SSCW (Tech): BE/ BTech in the notified branch of SSCW (Tech) issued on Employment News dated 18 June 2011; Between 20 years to 31 years (Not born earlier than 2 April 1981 and not later than 1 April 1992).

Selection Procedure

The selection procedure for Short Service Commission will be followed as mentioned below.

  • Initial screening/ Short listing of applications based on qualifications of the candidates which will be carried out by the NCC Directorates and HQ DG NCC
  • SSB interview by Additional Directorate General of Recruiting
  • Psychological Tests
  • Interview
  • Candidates recommended by SSBs will be required to go through Medical Exam.
  • Final Selection as per the order of merit

Merit list will also be published on the Indian Army Website http://joinindianarmy.nic.in/.

How to Apply

Apply on plain A4 size paper in the format available here duly typed. Applications should be posted to the nearest OC, NCC Unit from where NCC ‘C' certificate has been issued. Applications of Candidates serving in the Armed Forces duly counter-signed by Commanding Officer should be sent to the OC, NCC Unit from where NCC' ‘C' certificate has been issued and advance copy be sent direct to DG NCC West Block- IV, RK Puram, New Delhi-11 0066.
