Exam Pattern and Syllabus for JEECUP

The Papers of UPJEE (POLYTECHNIC) is conducted in Offline (Pen and Paper Based Examination) mode only. It has one paper for each group having 100 objective type questions. All Examination papers are printed in two columns, one in Hindi and other in English Medium.

The Papers of UPJEE (POLYTECHNIC) is conducted in Offline (Pen and Paper Based Examination) mode only. It has one paper for each group having 100 objective type questions. All Examination papers are printed in two columns, one in Hindi and other in English Medium.

Examination is conducted in all districts of Uttar Pradesh. However, in some exceptional circumstances, a different district in nearby area may be allotted. Use of electronic devices like mobile phone, calculator etc. is NOT PERMITTED in UPJEE (POLYTECHNIC). Materials like log table, book, notebook, Docu pen etc. should NOT be brought into the examination hall.

Syllabus:

The syllabus of UPJEE (POLYTECHNIC) consists of following subject for different courses:

  • General Intelligency
  • General Awareness
  • Reasoning & Logical Discussion

All the questions from these subjects are either of 10th std. or 12th std. Generally, questions are based on the conceptual understanding of the respective subjects. Therefore candidate are expected to have the good command over the conventional subjects. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math, Zoology, and Botany can be covered from the 10th & 12th book.

English Comprehension and English cover the basic grammar test. It includes Passage, Essay, Letter, Finding Errors etc. English is a predictable section which has a comprehension passage, questions on usage of grammar, error detection and sentence sequencing. Candidates will be questioned on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc. A separate section on vocabulary based on Latin legal terms can also be expected. The difficulty level could range from simple to moderate level.

Numerical Ability: It covers the basic arithmetic of 10th class level. It includes Time & Distance, Ratio & Proportion, Boat & Stream, Time & Work, Percentage, Profit & Loss etc. The difficulty level anticipated is only moderate.

Reasoning, General Intelligency, Reasoning & Logical Discussion, Scientific attitude: This section endeavors to test the basic understanding of reasoning, decision making, Odd One Out identification, Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning etc.

General Awareness and General Knowledge: It covers the day to day happenings around the world. The questions come from Famous Person, Book, Place, Award, Sports, and Geographical Phenomena etc. The General Knowledge section includes questions both from current affairs and static general knowledge. Questions on current affairs will test candidates on their knowledge of national and international current affairs.

Reference Books/Magazine

To start preparation, there are many resources available in the market. Be it a coaching materials, class notes or books. But one must be choosy to smartly select and have the targeted approach. A candidate can also join coaching class for speedy understanding of some concepts in Maths, reasoning and English. In case a candidate wants to practice for the exam he/she can buy from some of the good available books.

  • Mathematics : Arithmetic by RS Aggrawal
  • English: Made Easy by Norman Lewis, English is easy by Chetnanand Singh
  • For GK/Current Affairs: Religiously follow Jagranjosh.com’s daily current affairs. For GK Lucent General Knowledge book.
