The largest share of IIM aspirants is from state Maharashtra, just as previous year. The second and third state with highest aspirants are from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi respectively.
This year test takers comprise of 66 % of graduates with little or no work experience. However, last year was 68% of such applicants. From 13% last year to 16% this year is the number of candidates with holding two years above work experience.
The women aspirants increased by 1% this year, when compared to previous year. Despite percentage increase, the total count of women applicants has declined, from being 60,876 to 56,409, due to a fall in total registrations of CAT 2013 test takers.
Rohit Kapoor (Professor and Convenor of CAT 2013) told that It is clear that in our present economy, many working professionals prioritize to gain greater work experience before diverting attention to go for MBA.
Other trends are observed as 70% CAT aspirants belonging to engineering backgrounds, this year increased by 6% from last year. Applicants from Economics, management, and science graduates have 23% share, while the remaining belongs to other academic backgrounds.
The 2.14 lakhs was the total registered candidates for CAT 2012, increased by 4.2% as compared to 2011.
In 2013, 1.95 lakh applications have been received to take this management entrance exam. The CAT 2013 is to be held from October 16 till November 11.
IIMs all over India makes up to a total of 3,335 seats now, after adding 115 seats more for B-school admissions for session 2014.
