National Space Day 2024: This article is designed to help the teachers and school authorities understand the ISRO Day 2024 theme, guidelines and activities suggested for CBSE Schools nationwide.

National Space Day CBSE Guidelines: Chandyraan-3 was a huge success for India, as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully landed on the moon's south pole on August 23, 2023. To honour this day, the government of India has declared August 23 as the ‘National Space Day’. This is also known as ‘ISRO Day’ to commemorate the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. 

To celebrate National Space Day 2024 and motivate students to take an interest in science and technology, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a notice for all the school authorities affiliated with CBSE. The notice explains the list of activities that can be organised at the school level for students to take part in. Check the ‘X tweet’ from CBSE headquarters below:

As per CBSE, in view of ISRO Day, also known as National Space Day 2024 schools are requested to organise the following activities:

  1. 10 grade-specific modules on Chandrayaan were launched last year which have been translated into 13 regional languages. These modules may be popularised amongst the students and teachers. The Chandrayaan modules are available at: https://ncert.nic.in/chandrayaan.php
  2. Special classes/ workshops/ demonstrations/ lectures may be organised in the schools on 22nd/23rd August 2024, on the basis of Chandrayaan modules, ISRO’s space achievements like Aditya, Space Technology etc. 
  3. Bharat on the Moon portal https://bharatonthemoon.ncert.gov.in/ was launched last year. The students may be encouraged to register on the portal and participate in the various activities. 
  4. Quiz and painting competitions may be organised in the school. Eminent personalities may also be invited in the school to engage the students on the theme of Space.

LVM3 M4 vehicle successfully launched Chandrayaan-3 into orbit. Chandrayaan-3, in its precise orbit, has begun its journey to the Moon. Health of the Spacecraft is normal.

July 15, 2023

The first orbit-raising maneuver (Earthbound firing-1) is successfully performed at ISTRAC/ISRO, Bengaluru. Spacecraft is now in 41762 km x 173 km orbit.

The second orbit-raising maneuver performed. The spacecraft is now in 41603 km x 226 km orbit.

Chandrayaan-3 in the fourth orbit

July 22, 2023

The fourth orbit-raising maneuver (Earth-bound perigee firing) is completed. The spacecraft is now in a 71351 km x 233 km orbit.

Chandraayan-3 set to leave Earth’s orbit

July 25, 2023

Orbit-raising maneuver performed on July 25, 2023. Next firing (TransLunar Injection), is planned for August 1, 2023.

Chandrayaan-3 in translunar orbit

August 01, 2023

The spacecraft is inserted into the translunar orbit. The orbit achieved is 288 km x 369328 km. Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) is planned for Aug 5, 2023.

August 05, 2023

Chandrayaan-3 is successfully inserted into the lunar orbit. The orbit achieved is 164 km x 18074 km, as intended.

A solar system model competition can be conducted for students to brush up their knowledge of plants and their placement.

Quiz Competition:

A space science quiz competition is the best activity that can be done on National Space Day to educate students and others on Chandrayaan missions and other space topics.

Essay Writing Competition:

Organise an essay competition on Chandrayaan and National Space Day. This will take minimal efforts to conduct the event, and students will get the maximum knowledge from this.
