National News Headlines for School Assembly 

  • The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, inaugurates AIIMS Jammu. On this occasion, PM Modi said, "After the commissioning of AIIMS Jammu, people of Jammu will no longer have to leave for Delhi to avail specialised medical treatment." PM Modi also inaugurates, dedicates, and lays the foundation stone for multiple projects for upgrading infrastructure in several higher educational institutes across the country. 
  • An eminent jurist and senior advocate of the Supreme Court, Fali S. Nariman, died at 95. Nariman has been a senior advocate of the Supreme Court since 1971. He also served as president of the Bar Association of India from 1991 to 2010. In his condolence message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Shri Fali Nariman ji was among the most outstanding legal minds and intellectuals.".
  • CBSE Board Exams will be organised twice a year from the academic session 2025–26. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently said that students will get an opportunity to appear in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board exams for classes 10 and 12 twice in the academic year 2025–26.
  • The Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly has passed the “Maharashtra State Socially and Educationally Backward Bill 2024." The bill grants 10% reservations for members of the Maratha community in educational institutions and government jobs.

  • The European Union (EU) launches a non-military mission to protect cargo ships from multi-domain attacks in the Red Sea. Recently, a UK-registered Lebanese-operated cargo ship was reported to be under attack in the Bab al-Mandab Strait off the coast of Yemen. 
  • Heavy rain hits California. The National Weather Service predicted that a Pacific storm with atmospheric rivers will continue periods of heavy rain, mountain snow, and strong winds across much of California through Tuesday, then become primarily confined to southern California on Wednesday. 
  • The Henley Passport Index 2024 has been released. As per the latest index, India is ranked at 85. The Indian passport provides visa-free access to around 62 countries. This year, France tops the index as its passport provides visa-free access to around 194 countries.

  • Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA) and Meta will soon launch a new WhatsApp helpline in India to tackle AI-related misinformation.

  • Anush Agarwalla earned India's Paris Olympics quota in equestrian. The Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) announced that Anush Agarwalla has earned India a quota in dressage discipline for the Paris Olympics later this year. Anush Agarwalla had also claimed a historic individual bronze medal for India at the 2023 Asian Games.

Entertainment News 

  • Indian cricketer Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma have announced the birth of their second child, a baby boy named Akaay. The couple shared the good news on their social media handles.
