Every year SSC (Staff Selection Commission) conducts annual SSC CGL Examination for recruitment of candidates for different central govt jobs. Candidates selected for Statistical Investigator (Gr II) through SSC CGL examination will be designated as Junior Statistical Officers (JSO) in Group ‘B’ (Central Civil Service, Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial). They will be part of the Subordinate Statistical Service (SSS) Cadre under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The Junior Statistical Officers or Statistical Investigator (Grade II) appointees will fall under the Pay Band 2 i.e. 9300-34800 with Grade Pay of Rs. 4200. The starting salary for JSO’s will be around Rs 30,000 per month.
The post of Statistical Investigator (Grade II) is an all India level post and officers can be posted anywhere in the country. Of the total number of candidates selected for JSO profile, approximately 80% of postings are done through the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO); the rest are appointed to different Ministries/Departments/Organisation within the Union Government.
Nature of Job
At NSSO: The Statistical Investigator Officers posted at NSSO performs two main functions i.e., data collection and data processing.
In Ministries: The Statistical Investigator Officers posted in different governmental ministries, departments and organizations have clerical job profile. They are in charge of drafting documents, preparing survey report requirements, data entry, tabulation, editing and compiling of existing data into reports and other similar responsibilities.
Organizational Structure and Promotions:
The position of JSO is offered under the Subordinate Statistical Service (SSS) Cadre and is an entry level position for junior officers. Promotion policy is designed on the basis of seniority and experience. It takes a considerable amount of time, generally around 5 to 8 year; for Statistical Investigators to get promoted to Senior Statistical Officer (Group B - Gazetted) position.
