The marks of IAS Prelims Exam does not consider in the merit list of UPSC IAS Exam while it includes the marks of IAS Mains Exam (Written Test) and the marks of Personality Test (PT) of the candidates. When we see the marks of Nandini K R, IAS Topper 2017, she scored only 193 marks in IAS Interview (PT) and topped the Exam. While at the same time a candidate, Vineet Kumar, who scored 209 in IAS Interview (PT) and ranked 187 in the merit list of CSE 2016. By analysing the marks of top 10 rankers of UPSC IAS Exam it has been cleared that if an IAS aspirant wants to make into the list of top 10 then he/she has to score more than 900 marks in IAS Mains Exam (Written Test) alone. Rest will depend on the performance in the IAS Interview (Personality Test, PT).

In order to score 900 marks or more in IAS Mains Exam, the IAS aspirants must have a better strategy for each and every subject of General Studies. If an IAS aspirant wants to secure a berth in top 10 of IAS Exam, then he/she has to score more than 900 marks in IAS Mains Exam (WT) and 170+ in IAS Interview (PT). It needs consistency and hard work throughout the year during IAS preparation to score such distinctive marks in IAS Exam. There are no short-cuts to crack this coveted exam in the country and even an IAS aspirant cannot depend on the luck because luck favours the brain.
