1977 batch IAS officer and additional chief secretary (finance) CK Mathew was named the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan on 28 February 2012. He succeeded Salauddin Ahmed who retired from the post on 29 February 2012. He was earlier the Secretary to the Chief Minister during the first tenure of Ashok Gehlot as Chief Minister. His efficient but low-key style of working makes him a foavourite of Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot.


Mathew, who hails from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, started his carrer in 1979 as the Sub-divisional Officer in Udaipur. He then went on to work as Collector in Bhilwara and Barmer.


He also held several senior positions in irrigation, mines and energy departments. He had served as principal secretary (finance) in the year 2008.


Mathew wrote two novels — The Mustard Flower and The Best is Yet to Comeand. He is also reputed to be an avid blogger.
