IoT: Internet of Things
The term IoT was in the news because Amazon and IBM on 31 March 2015 announced their plans to enter the IoT marketspace.
IBM is setting up a separate IoT unit with an investment of 3 billion US dollars in the next four years.
Amazon introduced Dash Button on its devices which help the devices connect with the internet.
IoT refers to a network of devices which are embedded with electronic sensors and data transmitting technologies and connected over the internet. By using the Internet the data collected by sensors in a device can be transmitted to other networked devices and systems. The technology goes beyond machine-to-machine communications (M2M) and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and applications.
The technology helps in developing smart devices which work using information provided on a real time basis.
