Arun M Kumar was on 5 February 2017 appointed as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KPMG India. Kumar will serve the office for five years. His appointment was approved by the KPMG India Board and was ratified by the India partners.
He succeeds Richard Rekhy, who resigned in November 2016 following a large scale exodus of key people from the advisory team.
About Arun M Kumar
• Kumar has spent the majority of his career with KPMG in the United States.
• He has served various roles in KPMG US including his posts as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets, Director General of US and Foreign Commercial Service in the Obama administration.
• He also led a global organisation of senior professionals present in 78 countries and all the 50 states in the US.
• On behalf of the American government, Kumar also worked to strengthen commercial ties between India and the US.
Background
Kumar will join the firm at a time when the Big Four accounting and audit firms are pushing for market share following mandatory rotation of auditors as prescribed under the Companies Act, 2013.
In 2016, Deloitte, the market leader in the audit space, pulled out key people from KPMG's advisory team.
