Aruna Bahuguna became First Women Special DG of CRPF

Aruna Bahuguna appointed as the first women Special Director General of CRPF. She is an IPS from a 1979-batch Andhra Pradesh cadre.

Aruna Bahuguna, Senior IPS Officer on 18 April 2013 was appointed as the new Special Director General of CRPF, India’s largest paramilitary force. With her appointment to the office of the special DG, Aruna Bahuguna (a 1979-batch Andhra Pradesh Cadre Officer) became the first women officer to be appointed to the top position in the hierarchy of the Force.

At present, Bahuguna is serving as the chairperson of AP Police Housing Corporation. With this appointment in the office, Bahuguna will assume charge as number two in the largest central police force and will be in-charge of operations.

About Aruna Bahuguna

•  She is an IAS from the 1979-batch Andhra Pradesh cadre officer
•  She served as the additional DG in the AP Special Police and before that in-charge of the fire services
•  She is married S Jayaraman, who is an IPS officer of the 1977 batch of West Bengal cadre and is presently special secretary in the Union home ministry handling internal security

Her appointment to the office of the Special DG will be in effect from the day, when she takes the charge.
