Following the death of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Dorjee Khandu in the Pawan Hans Chopper crash, Arunachal Pradesh Power Minister Jarbom Gamlin was sworn in as the new Chief Minister on 5 May 2011. The oath of office was administered by Governor General (retired) J.J. Singh at the Raj Bhavan.
Born in 1961 at Alo in West Siang district of the state, Gamlin did his schooling in Goalpara in Assam and later shifted to Delhi in for further studies. He headed the powerful All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union from 1981 to 1983 and began his political career in 1999 when he was elected a member of Lok Sabha as a Congress candidate from Arunachal West constituency. Gamlin was a Lok Sabha MP from 1999 to 2004. He was later elected consecutively twice to the Assembly from Liromoba.
He was appointed Home and Parliamentary Affairs Minister in 2004 in the Gegong Apang Cabinet. From 1999 to 2004 he was an MP. He currently represents the Liromoba Assembly constituency in West Siang district.
Gamlin in 2004 made his debut in the state assembly winning from Liromova constituency in West Siang district and became Home and Parliamentary Affairs Minister in Gegong Apang cabinet. However he was sacked within a year due to differences between him and the then Chief Minister Gegong Apang. Gamlin got back to Gegong Apang by engineering the latter's ouster as Chief Minister and helping Dorjee taking over the reins of the state in 2007.
He was made the Power Minister when he was re-elected MLA from Nilo Mova, Gamlin.
