Commercial banks in West Bengal in the first week of August prepared a roadmap for extending banking services to 7486 unbanked villages with a population of over 2000 in the State by March 2012. 225 brick and mortar branches would be opened through business correspondent model. United Bank is the convenor for the State Level Bankers' Committee for West Bengal. Banks in West Bengal would open about 125 branches in the various unbanked villages and provide banking services through business correspondent model in 2420 villages in 2010 and the rest of the villages would be covered in 2011-12.
