The State Government of Bihar on 3 February 2015 decided to provide free education to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and girl students till Post Graduation (PG) level in the State.
As per the decision, no fee would be taken from SC/ST and girl students at the time of admission in government universities and colleges in Bihar. The decision was made at a meeting of the State Cabinet.
Beside, the financial loss of such universities and colleges would be reimbursed by the state government after gathering the actual information about it. The move will cost 29 crore rupees annually to the state exchequer.
According to the latest government data, there are 4.05 lakh SC, ST and Girl students studying undergraduate courses in the state.
