The Sultanganj railway station in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar is going to get a new name in honor of the a sacred Hindu shrine, Ajgaibinath Dham. BJP leader Samrat Choudhary, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, made the announcement.
"The Bhagalpur municipal council has approved the proposal to rename the station," he disclosed. A number of groups have pushed for the railway station to be renamed in honor of the temple since 2007, including the Panda community, locals, and the chief Mahant of the Juna Akhara Committee.
Why is Sultanganj Railway Station Getting Renamed?
The renaming aims to highlight the importance of the Ajgaibinath Dham shrine and encourage more people to visit the area. "This change will help reconnect the region with its cultural roots," emphasized the Deputy Chief Minister. The state administration hopes that these efforts will significantly boost tourism in Bihar.
About Ajgaibinath Temple
Located in Sultanganj, Bihar, the Ajgaibinath temple is an old Hindu shrine devoted to Lord Shiva.
The temple draws a sizable number of Shiva worshipers because of its famed carvings, stone inscriptions, and close proximity to the Ganga River.
Previous Attempts of Renaming Railway Stations
In the past, the BJP had suggested changing the name of Bakhtiyarpur railway station, which bears the name of Akhtiyar al-Din Muhammad Bakhtiyar Khilji.
Due to resistance from local authorities, the plan to rename Bakhtiyarpur station was abandoned.
Previously 8 Railway Stations Were Renamed in UP
As per a previous announcement made by Railway officials on August 27, 2024, eight railway stations in the Lucknow division of Northern Railways have been officially renamed after saints and freedom fighters.
